Club Update, October 1, 2009

So, we haven't gotten any votes in the contest yet. I know this is partly because I didn't update to remind people, because I kind of forgot the date until I got to work… So I'm going to extend the voting until October 5, just so everyone can put in their two cents. Three first place winners would be kind of awesome, but not if they're by default. So vote! Please! Vote!

Also, I've realized that two months isn't long enough for the Infi-Map contest, what with NaNoWriMo and everything. So that contest is going to run until December 31.

Great, Big Summer Contest

Runs from now until September 15, 2009. Doesn't really have a summery theme; we're just giving you time to produce works of awesomeness. There are will be three categories, so as not to exclude anyone.

1) The Artist category: Draw a scene from your favourite fanfic. Must be a scene, not a character.

2) The Writer category: Write a fic of no more than 10,000 words. Can be on any theme we've done so far (see The Archives) or something that inspires you.

3) The (probably) Team Effort category: A fic of no more than 10,000 words and a piece of art to go with it. Again, any theme or inspiration goes, but the picture doesn't have to be a scene, necessarily. You're invited to team up with a writer/artist for this, and that writer/artist doesn't have to be a club member. (You can totally do this on your own, though. If you want to. )

Again, the contest runs from now, through July and August, and ends on September 15. Voting will run for two weeks, until September 30, and we really, really hope we get submissions in at least one category this time! Having no contest entries is getting old.

Fall Contest

One thing that's always bugged me a little about DP is how little they explored the possibilities of the Infi-Map. It allows you to travel between places and between times, but without any real control over which time or place you end up in. (In that sense, it's like the TARDIS *shot*.) The Infi-Map's potential hasn't really been explored in fanfiction either. It would make for some great historical or futuristic stories. It would make for AUs. It would allow for crossovers. And no one's done anything with it!

Your mission, should you choose to accept it, will be to write a story of no more than 10,000 words, where the Infi-Map plays a key role. It can be used to create or solve a historical problem. It can be used to set up a crossover or AU. It can get into the wrong hands (again) or go missing. It can do anything else you can think of, as long as it plays a major role in the plot.

This is not just so I can read some Infi-Map stories. No, really.

The contest will run from now to December 31, 2009, at 11:59 pm PST. This will hopefully allow people entering NaNo to do both , and allow everyone else to come up with something really awesome. Entries must be no more than 10,000 words, and should be submitted by noting ~PhanFiction. Voting will run to January 15, 2010.

There will be a standing Review Challenge. If there's a DP fanfic out there that is seriously awesome and everyone should read it if they haven't already, write up a review for it! Tell us why it's great, tell us why we should read it, but don't give away anything. Think of it like a comment that gives a little bit of concrit but doesn't give away the ending. When you've got the review done, submit it to the club and we'll put it up as a deviation. Then we'll add the story to our recommendation list, with a link to the review (or if the fic's already there, we'll link to your review anyway). A fic can be reviewed multiple times by different people. As I said, this is a standing challenge. There is no end date!

There will be a standing Fanart Challenge. If there's a DP fic that's truly inspired you, or that's awesome, or that demands fanart, draw it! Submit it to the club! We'll post it, and list in in our challenge/contest archives. Again, there's no end date on this.

~DPRemix

For anyone who enjoys reimagining DP or felt that the third season was less than perfect in any way, go check out ~DPRemix. It's the dA site for a project being hosted by the DP Online Community. At some point in the future, the members of the project will be provided with Steve Marmel's notes for the third season and will then attempt to write, illustrate, and maybe even animate a series of stories based on them. More information is available at either site just mentioned. And the best part is that they're still looking for people to help out!

Update: The Remix project has started an "Origins" episode tracing through the first few days after Danny receives his powers. They're still, still looking for writers and other people to work on the project, so if you're interested, go to the DPOF and sign up today!

Club Rules

1. Please do not flame (insult or critique without saying anything useful) work or other members of this club. Constructive criticism is encouraged.

2. All work submitted must be kept at PG-13 rating.

3. Do not or comment on any artwork submitted here. Please make sure to or comment on the original piece!

4. Authors can join and submit work.

5. Members can submit any fanart or fanfics for DP fanfics, even if the author isn't on the "official" list.

Nominees:

Members can also nominate authors to be featured. Nominated authors need three votes to become featured. To vote, send us a note titled "Vote". You can comment, but notes are preferred.

Members can nominate stories too, by commenting on the Booklist journal or sending a note titled "Story" and a link to it. One nomination is enough for stories to be featured.

Submissions:

Members can submit fics and fanart for fics to the gallery. Just send us a note with the links to the work and a title "Gallery Submission"!

However, for the sake of gallery navigability, we'll only post the first chapter of a multi-chaptered fic on ~PhanFiction, but we'll send readers to the author's gallery for the rest of the story (or wherever else the rest is posted).

Joining:

If you would like to join, send us a note titled "Join". Also, please the club and spread the word by putting our icon or name in your journal or signature. To do that, just type : iconphanfiction : or : devphanfiction : without the spaces. Remember you don't have to be a writer to join, as long as you appreciate DP fanfiction and the authors behind it.
