Club Update, May 2, 2008

Okay, I've had my sleep now, so the new contest is posted. It's … another writing one. But we're shaking things up for the summer!

May/June contest

Ever notice how there are a lot of Toddler!Danny stories on FanFiction.net? Ever notice how they're all pretty similar? Ever think you could do one better, or just wanted an excuse to do one? Here's your chance!

The May/June contest theme is Child Characters. Take any DP character (or as many as you want), and write a story with them as children. They can be kids for the first time, or turned into kids, doesn't matter, and they don't have to be toddlers. They can be babies or elementary school-aged too. Basically, take the idea and knock yourself out! (But please, in less than 10,000 words and only one chapter, so when voting comes 'round, it's not a chore to go through the stories.)

Again, submissions should be by note. Deadline is June 15, 11:59 PST, and voting will go for two weeks until June 30. First, second, and third prizes will be put in the gallery, and first prize gets to be the Featured Deviation.

Collaborative Fanbook

This is a "sequel" of sorts to the Christmas Poster that was sent to Butch Hartman. This time around, though, it's going to be a book, and it's going to Steve Marmel, one of the writers of Danny Phantom. It's not limited to DP either—anything that Marmel has worked on is fair game.

Submissions are limited to five pages per person, but collaborations are welcome. If you choose to do one, the pages for each person get added together— two people equal ten pages, three equal fifteen, etc. We're looking for fanfiction or fancomics, but bear in mind that Marmel didn't work on Season 3 of DP, so anything from there doesn't apply to this.

Operation Danny Phantom Hope

Nominations in Progress

These here be folks nominated for the position of Honoured Author. Club policy on nominations is that three people have to give the nomination before we accept them into the Author List, and they should do it with a "Vote" note.

~DPRemix

For anyone who enjoys reimagining DP or felt that the third season was less than perfect in any way, go check out ~DPRemix. It's the dA site for a project being hosted by the DP Online Community. At some point in the future, the members of the project will be provided with Steve Marmel's notes for the third season and will then attempt to write, illustrate, and maybe even animate a series of stories based on them. More information is available at either site just mentioned. And the best part is that they're still looking for people to help out!

Update: The Remix project has started an "Origins" episode tracing through the first few days after Danny receives his powers. They're still, still looking for writers and other people to work on the project, so if you're interested, go to the DPOF and sign up today!

Club Rules

1. Please do not flame (insult or critique without saying anything useful) work or other members of this club. Constructive criticism is encouraged.

2. All work submitted must be kept at PG-13 rating.

3. Do not or comment on any artwork submitted here. Please make sure to or comment on the original piece!

4. Authors can join and submit work.

5. Members can submit any fanart or fanfics for DP fanfics, even if the author isn't on the "official" list.

Nominees:

Members can also nominate authors to be featured. Nominated authors need three votes to become featured. To vote, send us a note titled "Vote". You can comment, but notes are preferred.

Members can nominate stories too, by commenting on the Booklist journal or sending a note titled "Story" and a link to it. One nomination is enough for stories to be featured.

Submissions:

Members can submit fics and fanart for fics to the gallery. Just send us a note with the links to the work and a title "Gallery Submission"!

However, for the sake of gallery navigability, we'll only post the first chapter of a multi-chaptered fic on ~PhanFiction, but we'll send readers to the author's gallery for the rest of the story (or wherever else the rest is posted).

Joining:

If you would like to join, send us a note titled "Join". Also, please the club and spread the word by putting our icon or name in your journal or signature. To do that, just type : iconphanfiction : or : devphanfiction : without the spaces. Remember you don't have to be a writer to join, as long as you appreciate DP fanfiction and the authors behind it. Artists welcome!
